Securing Online Spaces
Democracy Watch highlights the need to promote safe internet services. Citizens have increasingly relied on online platforms to conduct their transactions since the start of the pandemic. However, the benefits of online connectivity exposes users to scammers and other cybercriminals.
Democracy Watch calls on the government to ramp-up its efforts in protecting citizens from cybercrime. It must partner with the information and communications technology (ICT) and telecommunications sectors to better and engage in proactive measures to respond to scams and digital threats. Together, these public-private partnerships can develop online programs and applications to protect Filipinos. They can also raise awareness on how to mitigate the risks of cybercrime and help crack down on these criminals.
As the country strengthens digital readiness for the benefit of its citizens, it must not only boost online connectivity or enhance digital infrastructure; but it must also adopt a holistic approach in maintaining a safe cyber environment.
